ICA annual General Assembly
According to the 2019 revised Statutes, the ICA General Assembly will meet annually. At least one consultative and/or deliberative General Assembly is held every year if there are significant issues arising to discuss. In this case the General Assembly will be held soon after the annual Board meeting. Every third year the General Assembly holds elections for the Board and it will convene in connection with the International Congress on Acoustics. For 2020, the Annual General Assembly will be held online (only delegates appointment and online vote is required). The guidelines for the ICA Annual General Assembly with online voting procedure are available HERE.
The ICA congratulates Jean Mattei on reaching 100 years of age on 21 September 2020 and recognizes his outstanding contributions to acoustics during the century. At the end of the sixties Jean Mattei became President of GALF (Association of French Speaking Acousticians which later became SFA, the French Acoustical Society). There he developed GAIE, the Industrial and Environmental Acoustics Group which would become Member of International-INCE. In 1969 he became a member of the ICA (International Commission of Acoustics, the seventh commission of IUPAP). He served as the Chairman from 1972 to 1975, and, in 1983 organized the 11th ICA Congress in Paris as General Secretary.
The International Commission for Acoustics is on Twitter! Follow us at @ICAcommission for last minute information on events, activities and more.
The ICA Annual Board Meeting was held online for the first time on 15 and 16 July 2020. It was an important opportunity to discuss not only the general affairs of ICA but also the difficulties that the scientific community is facing due COVID-19 pandemic.
IYS 2020 and 2021
Due to COVID-19 restrictions, forcing organizers of events associated with the International Year of Sound 2020 to cancel, postpone or reschedule these events the ICA made a decision in March that the International Year of Sound would become a 2 year celebration. For a full report on the extension, please see sound2020.org/news/coronavirus. This allows for postponed events as well as new events and activities to be included. Two major changes should be mentioned:
Extension of the deadlines for the submission of the proposals for the student's competition to the end of 2020 with the winners announced at the time of a major international acoustics meeting in 2021.
The ICA summary/overview event of the IYS will be rescheduled for a suitable international meeting late in 2021.
The IYS page sound2020.org has the full listing of the creative events and resources developed during the time of restrictions and those planned for 2021 plus the full details of the competition at the Student Competition tab.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, many conferences-symposiums and workshops scheduled for the 2020 are either cancelled or rescheduled. Please visit the Calendar of Meetings and Congresses page of our site for up-dated informations.
The new President of the ICA, serving 2019-2022, will be Mark Hamilton. He was elected at the ICA General Assembly 11 September 2019. Jeong-Guon Ih will serve as Vice President. Michael Taroudakis becomes Past-President, Martin Ochmann will be Treasurer, and Antonino Di Bella will be Secretary-General. The new Board of the ICA was also elected -- see ICA Board 2019 - 2022.
